Sterling Truck Suspension Options
Sterling Truck TufTrac - Proven Off-Road Performance
Our job-proven high-performance vocational suspension was designed specifically
for on/off road high articulation operations where it's important to traverse
bumps, ridges and washboard without "bottoming out," even during "crisscross"
articulation.
TufTrac 2-Stage - Improved Unladen Ride
Sterling's new TufTrac 2-Stage provides all of the high-performance features
of the standard TufTrac, but also provides an improved unladen ride (by up to 30%)
by using a 2-stage center bearing with a soft spring rate.
Features include: Uniform Wheel Loading During Articulation
Whether your truck is loaded or unloaded, the unique design of TufTrac and
TufTrac 2-Stage allows it to maintain a uniform load over each wheel as the
suspension articulates. By maintaining an even load over each wheel, both
TufTrac models retain maximum traction, giving you the confidence to cross
even the roughest job site.
Spectacular Ride
Most vocational spring suspensions use springs designed to carry heavy loads
that have an extremely harsh ride when the vehicle is loaded. The same with
suspensions using rubber load cushions. TufTrac's combination of rubber-isolated
pivot points and parabolic taper-leaf springs ensures a smooth ride, whether
loaded or unloaded, minimizing wear and tear on both truck and driver.
TufTrac 2-Stage provides and even better unladed ride (up to 30%) via the
use of a 2-stage center bearing with a soft spring rate.
Maintenance-Free Design
All moving joints are contained in rubber elastomers that require no periodic
adjustments or lubrication.
Sterling Truck AirLiner Suspensions
The ingenious, no-maintenance design that save weight and operating costs
while superbly cushioning you, your vehicle and your load.
Compared to steel suspensions, AirLiner delivers greater comfort and,
consequently, provides better handling and protection for the load.
Because AirLiner suspension systems offer substantially fewer parts
than competing systems, they offer greater reliability and need less
servicing attention in the long run.
They require no lubrication, of course, which means little or no
routine maintenance.
AirLiner is priced to make it the good economic choice when the job
calls for air suspension.
Resale price comparisons prove that trucks equipped with air ride
suspensions command a higher resale value versus trucks equipped
with standard spring suspensions.
AirLiner's proven combination of trailing arm leaf springs and
self-leveling, rolling-lobe air bags provides a uniformly soft
spring ride, smoothing the ridges and filling the ruts like only
premium air suspension can.
To really appreciate the ingenuity of the AirLiner design, look
at the leaf-spring trailing arms slung under the
axle housings. You'll see the AirLiner design provides plenty of
room for installing the low fifth wheels required by today's tallest
trailers. You'll also find that the arms bend 35 degrees at the rear,
doubling as the air bag supports and eliminating the complexity of
mounting the air springs separately, on cross beams or tubes. Simple
and reliable.
To produce the relatively constant spring rate necessary for optimum
cushioning performance, an air ride suspension must maintain a
relatively constant ride height. AirLiner utilizes a premium rotary
valve to fulfill this height-control function. Why a rotary type valve?
Because the efficiency of a conventional, rubber-seat valve can
deteriorate with age, altering not only the spring rate but also the
driveline angle, possibly shortening the driveshaft life.
Suspensions that aren't afraid of the scale
AirLiner single and tandem air ride suspensions are lightweight champions.
These suspensions are naturally lean because there are fewer parts to
begin with. And they feature aluminum brackets on all but the 23,000-lb.
and 46,000-lb. severe-service models, and an aluminum center crossmember
on the standard-duty 40,000-lb. model. Composite or aluminum air-bag pistons
can be added on all models.
